How it all started…
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of disability in the U.S. and affects almost 50 million Americans. The combination of our aging population, the current obesity epidemic, and our sports-centric society has resulted in unprecedented numbers of knee injuries. Knee OA is a problem that is exploding.
Unfortunately, patients who are diagnosed with knee OA are often under-served – they aren’t always presented with all of their treatment options, and many are prematurely referred for knee replacement surgery before alternative treatment options have been fully explored. Patients often feel lost in the gap between their diagnosis of knee OA and being told that they need knee replacement.
Reflex was established to bridge this gap.
We provide a comprehensive non-surgical treatment program for patients with knee OA and help reduce their pain and increase their function. We opened our doors to patients in March of 2011 and have helped hundreds of patients get back to the activities they love.
The Reflex vision is to offer all possible treatment modalities for knee OA in a single clinic. “Patients are generally shuffled between their primary care provider, physical therapist, and orthopedic surgeon for this condition, and often are not given full disclosure of all treatment options available to them”, says Dr. Riggs.
“At Reflex, we want patients to not only better understand their diagnosis of knee OA, but to also be fully informed regarding the several treatment options that are out there.”
Reflex’s focus is a non-surgical approach to treating knee OA.
Patients are often told that surgery is their only option, despite several effective non-surgical treatments being available. Several patients want to explore non-surgical treatments before undergoing an operation as monumental as total joint replacement.
At Reflex we are passionate about quality, and insist that all treatments offered at Reflex be backed by evidenced-based research.
“If we develop an organization that offers the highest quality of treatment for knee OA, patients will experience better outcomes.”
Reflex is no Ordinary Clinic
Every patient that comes through the doors is an individual with their own specific cares and concerns and deserves to be treated as such. As Dr. Riggs has said, “We want Reflex patients to have a 1st Class experience.” At Reflex, the chief focus is to give every patient the best service possible at all points of treatment.
